Currently on our weather map we see low pressure in the mid-west bringing rain to the Ohio Valley. This will move east through the day

Zooming in on our area, there is a frontal boundary nearby, this will create some instability and trigger storms ahead of the cold front

Temperature today will be in the low 90s, but it will still feel hot and soupy with heat index upper 90s to almost 100

The talk today will focus on severe weather and flood potential. SPC and NWS indicate increased odds of severe weather

WPC has a high risk for excessive rainfall. This is expected to occur as the cold front approaches this evening around 5pm. Heaviest portion between 8pm and midnight.

Some ensembles showing rainfall totals approaching 2 inches in NJ/NYC. This is due to the frontal boundary posted above, as it will trigger thunderstorms in the afternoon before low pressure in the mid-west get here, focusing primarily in NJ area with spillover into Philly.

Severe weather possible for a large portion of the state today. Atmosphere is loaded with moisture; rain, hail and damaging winds are possible. Tornado threat is very low.
