8/27 Weather Brief

  • Hot weather continues, heat advisory in effect
  • Temps in the low 90s, heat index over 100
  • Flash flood watch today
  • Heavy storms expected

High Temperature

Expecting another warm and muggy day today. Highs in the low 90s.

With the dewpoints in the mid to upper 70s, heat indices will be over 100. Heat advisory remains in effect.

Evening Thunderstorms

We have a slight risk for severe weather this evening. However, not a lot of shear present, so only expecting isolated severe weather. SPC/NWS went with a slight risk

The storms will pop up, become waterloaded, and drop heavy rain. There is a chance for flooding and excessive rainfall.

Short range models output for precipitation totals looks like random polka dots. We see this type of output when models are expecting storms, but not a lot of winds to push the storms east. They will pop up and dump rain in the same locations.

Here are the FV3 and NAM precip totals today.

The patchy heavy rainfall has prompted the NWS to issue flood watches for today.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and keep an eye on the weather.
