7/9 Weather Brief

  • Tropical Storm Elsa departs
  • Heavy rain and flooding last night
  • Damaging winds across the beaches
  • Somewhat quieter today but chance of storms lingers for the afternoon

Morning satellite view or Tropical Storm Elsa that has regained some strength over the waters

A lot of local storm reports, looks like Sea Isle received 70+ mph winds early AM. There are other reports of winds of 40+ along the shores. You can skim through some of the reports here and scroll back by clicking on “older” version: Local storm reports

NWS will conduct post-tropical storm analysis and once that is completed I will post it too.

Rainfall totals through this morning is impressive. A lot of NJ got hit hard. Severe thunderstorms in PA in the evening dropped some hail, especially in Montgomery, Berks, Lehigh, and Northampton counties.

Today we are looking at sunnier skies and warm temps

Cold front still draped to the west this morning will instigate some thunderstorm activity this evening again

SPC/NWS going with a slightly elevated risk for severe weather

Here’s one of the models depiction for this evening. 3km NAM shows storms in the area around 6pm. Chance of hail and gusty winds in the pop-up storms.
